Grapevine is a major fruit crop used for the production of table grapes, dried raisins, wines and spirits. These diverse products each require that the fruit have specific qualities (yield, color, firmness, composition, sanitary status…) at harvest.

These qualities depend on complex interactions between the genotypes of the rooststock (for grafted vines) and scion, and their environments (soil and atmosphere). Modern viticulture must adapt to a changing climate while maintaining/improving yield and quality, and decreasing inputs of water, mineral nutrients, and pesticides.

In this context, the XII International Conference on Grape Breeding and Genetics will highlight the most recent scientific progress aimed at the genetic improvement of grapevine focusing on: ampelography, grapevine genetics, genomics, cis-genomics and epigenomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, fluxomics, plant physiology, phenotyping, and bioinformatics. The dramatic recent progress in most of these areas emphasizes the interest of the conference.

Under the auspice of the International Society for Horticultural Science, the event will be hosted in one of the most famous and influential wine producing regions in the world.

The city of Bordeaux, elected the favorite European destination in 2016, is an exceptional destination mixing history (recognized as an UNESCO-World Heritage city) and modernity (e.g. the recently open Cité du Vin), and is located in a region with many sightseeing possibilities (vineyards and wine estates, Arcachon and the Atlantic coast, the dune of Pyla, Saint-Emilion, The Dordogne valley, the Landes forest…).  It is 1 h flight from Paris, 2 h by high speed train, and the Bordeaux Mérignac airport hosts several low cost airlines.
